O&L Leisure Hotels & Lodges - Lodges
MOKUTI ETOSHA LODGE
Mokuti, the closest Lodge to Etosha National Park, is situated only 4 minutes drive from the eastern Namutoni entrance gate and is located on its own private 4,000 hectare Nature Reserve which shares a common border with this fascinating wildlife reserve.
Upon arrival one immediately encounters a welcoming cool green tropical oasis in which the charming African thatched buildings and sparkling pools are spaciously nestled in and around these vast and shaded indigenous gardens giving credence to its name Mokuti which, in Ovambo means “in the forest”.
Mokuti Lodge at Etosha is a Namibian Icon and promises a warm Namibian welcome and a stay during which you will be HOSTED in a comforting and uncomplicated manner: A true Namibian experience. It is the perfect venue for individual travelers wanting to explore the famous eastern side of Etosha, so well known for its excellent and diverse wildlife encounters, as well as for meetings, incentives, weddings and honeymoons. This intimate Lodge has only 90 rooms and 16 luxury rooms: all air-conditioned and equipped with satellite TV, mini-fridge, tea/coffee-making facility, and en-suite bathroom with shower all recently refurbished.
Mokuti Etosha Lodge
offers a Main Dining Room & Lodge Bar, a Pool Bar & Terrace and the only open air African Boma in the area. Here meals are typical Namibian “feasts” featuring many local products and the famous Namibian choices of both Beef and Game, all lovingly prepared according to Mokuti’s “Home-style” recipes. Leisure facilities and activities at Mokuti abound and range from its exclusive SPA, two swimming pools, a separate children’s splash pool, two floodlit Tennis Courts, Gym, Reptile Park, walking trails, private Airstrip and open Game Viewing vehicles with professional Guides for morning, afternoon or full day “safaris” into Etosha.
At night there are open fires to gather around and tell “tall” stories after an alfresco dinner served in the Boma or under the towering trees in the gardens or away in the Bush. When eventually returning to your room along winding pathways, do not be surprised to encounter the resident herd of placid Bontebok and the next morning, when Squirrels insist on sharing your breakfast.
MIDGARD COUNTRY ESTATE
Midgard Country Estate
is located 85 km northeast of Windhoek and only 70 km from Hosea International Airport in the unspoiled Otjihavero Mountains. An ideal family hideaway, first or last stop for International visitors, intimate meetings, team-building events or weddings.
The founder of the Namibian Conglomerate, Ohlthaver & List, Carl List, originally acquired Midgard Country Estate in 1937. His son, Carl Werner List originally farmed the 16,000-hectare Estate and developed this private and intimate world: a household name in Namibia. Today you are invited into this very private world to enjoy the tranquility whilst marveling at the pioneering German Settler spirit, which gave birth to it all. Midgard, a word found in Old Norse, Middle English and High German languages has varying meanings but is popularly thought to be a paradise where the earth rises again, fertile and green, creating a protected world and a safe “empire” for the people.
It is an intimate world of its own, which only offers 46 newly decorated and fully equipped rooms, the Main Dining Room & Bar, the Boma, two swimming pools and Pool Bar & BBQ, Gym and Sauna, private Skittling Alley or Kegel Bahn all spaciously situated in a vast sprawling country garden bordering the banks of the Swakop River as it meanders through the Estate on its way to the Atlantic Ocean at Swakopmund. Activities consist of either doing absolutely nothing or discovering Hiking and Mountain Trails, driving along 4x4 tracks, playing Volley Ball, Tennis, Table Tennis or outdoor Chess, Star Gazing, and then viewing the Vintage Car Collection.
One of the Estate’s major attractions is a Sundowner Drive or Nature Game Drive to Hilltop for an amazing sunset accompanied by traditional “sundowners”. Morning and afternoon Nature Game Drives through the separate 2,000-hectare Nature Reserve along the Swakop River will open up an experience clearly confirming what life was like on a traditional Namibian Farming and Game Estate in years gone by. Wildlife found here includes Giraffe, Blue and Black Wildebeest, Oryx, Kudu, Hartebeest, Eland, Warthog, Baboons, and smaller antelope species such as the Steenbok. Birding along the riverfront can also be rewarding.
STRAND HOTEL SWAKOPMUND
The Strand Hotel Swakopmund will be located directly on the mole (promenade) in Swakopmund, surrounded on three sides by the Atlantic Ocean, with direct access to the main beach in town. On the fourth side it will back up to the town’s beautiful central park, through which it is a short five minute walk to the historic centre of this charming, German, Victorian era colonial seaside town, with all its shops, cafés, restaurants and bars.
When Strand Hotel Swakopmund
opens, with its extensive, unique and creatively entertaining restaurants, bars, deli, lobby-lounge, sea facing terraces and shops, set on this historic and iconic site, it’s destined to become a destination in itself for all visitors to and residents of Swakopmund.
Its architectural inspiration finds its roots deep in Namibian German colonial history and reflects this in a tasteful contemporary manner. The interiors are residential in nature, and the brief to all designers involved was to create a non-hotel hotel. One as charming and welcoming as the town it is in. Simply very warm and comfortable, and as they say in German: “gemütlich” with a genuine “sense-of-place”
Every aspect of the Strand Hotel Swakopmund is being developed according to international four-star standards. It’s very possibly going to be the benchmark against which all hotels/lodges in Namibia will be measured.
