Kraatz Engineering, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies, is a proudly Namibian enterprise with a rich engineering heritage dating back to 1947.
For over 60 years, we have provided services to leading national and international clients, and have established ourselves as a highly skilled, innovative, competitive and experienced engineering service provider. Based in the coastal town of Walvis Bay, we provide services to the oil and gas, mining and general industrial sectors in Namibia and on the western seaboard of Africa. Many years of experience and excellent craftsmanship in multi-skilled engineering and specialised services provide our national and international clients with the highest standards in quality, safety and reliability.

In addition, we have nurtured various relationships with local and international service providers that complement our service offerings.

Marine and Offshore

We provide a comprehensive range of engineering services to the oil and gas sector on the western seaboard of Africa. For offshore marine support vessel owners and operators we offer dry docking, conversions, modifications, travelling repairs, pipework, steelwork, mechanical work, propulsion repair and blasting-and coating. Offshore drilling companies make use of our repair, maintenance and fabrication services in Walvis Bay or on location. We regularly carry out projects under the following class societies: American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Bureau Veritas (BV) and Lloyds Register of shipping.

Industrial

Our range of services covers structural, mechanical, piping and plate work (SMPP) for the mining, petro chemical, chemical and general industrial clients in Namibia and beyond – this is applicable for greenfield as well as brownfield projects. Other services comprise of machining, specialised welding, steel fabrication and installation, pip fabrication and installation, tank building and modifications.

Syncrolift workshop 
This fully contained 400 m2 workshop with 600m2 laydown and storage area is situated within the syncrolift premises. It is equipped with client representative offices, a board room, mess room facilities, tool and equipment stores and a 5t overhead crane.

Dry-docking facilities
Kraatz Marine utilizes the Namibian Port Authority's facilities in conjunction with its ship repair services. The Syncrolift can lift vessels with a displacement of up to 2,000 tons, 80 m in overall length, 14m in beam, and maximum draft of 5.2 m. The syncrolift is a common user facility and utilized by leading international vessel owners and operators such as Bourbon Offshore,Tide water Marine, ABC Maritime and Swire Pacific.

Quay Space (Syncrolift and main harbour)
The syncrolift area has a total of 400 m of quay space with a draft of -6.8m whilst the main harbour has a total of 1,400m quay space with a draft of -12.8m CD. Berth 8 (165m) in the main harbour has been successfully used for oil rig projects by companies such as Trans Ocean, Pride and Hercules Offshore.

2. INDUSTRIAL MECHANICAL SERVICES

Our mechanical service division consists of qualified and experienced artisans led by supervisors with years of experience in marine and other industries. Together we have contributed to the successful execution of a wide range of mechanical maintenance, services and repairs including operations that involve stripping down the following for inspection, as well as offering routine and preventative maintenance services on items:

Construction and maintenance crews
Our on-site construction and maintenance crews are flexible and are always backed by the construction intelligence and capabilities of our workshop. Crew sizes are dependent on the nature of the customers’ project. Our “team-source” division equips us with a fast and skill-matched adaption of the client’s labour demands. Our construction and maintenance crews are capable of carrying out tank building and repairs, on-site fabrication, erection/installation of workshop fabricated components, shut down projects, maintenance and modification assignments and HDPE welding to name but a few.

Fabrication
Our team of qualified steel workers are capable of fabricating making a large range of items from ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This includes steel structures, bins, chutes, hoppers, low pressure and high pressure vessels and piping, conveyors, mezzanine decks, water tight doors, platforms, hatch covers, tanks, accommodation sections, cell guides, gangways and modular plant components. Fabrication assignments are carried out according to client quality specification such as the American Petroleum Institute (API), American Society of Mechanical engineers (ASME) and South African National Standards (SANS). Kraatz has extensive experience in non-destructive examination techniques such as radiography, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic scanning as well as dye penetrant.

Welding
We employ a number of highly skilled welders that are coded to international approved welding procedures. These welding procedures are approved by societies such as American Society of Mechanical engineers (ASME), American Welding Society (AWS) and European welding Standards (DIN EN) and apply to a wide range of positions, materials and welding processes.
